i can never do a 'proper' glass (lens) testing. here one evening after being bothered by the fact that the 85mm/1.8 wasn't putting out the quality i expected, i was shooting anything i can shoot and this time i up'd the aperture from the starting point of the lenses full opening. i always, as in second nature, choose the appropriate 'icon' on the top right LCD display of the camera and in this case with WB'ing for the Rowenta iron photo - the icon that resembles an illuminated light bulb, for incandescent lighting or any lighting that produces in the ballpark of 3200 kelvin in color temperature, because i always hate to be inconvenienced pointing at the nearest white wall for manual WB. i just know anyone can relate to this. shooting outdoors, case in point, i would do the same, look for the 'sun' icon.
after focusing onto the brand - "Rowenta", and making an exposure. i immediately hopped on Capture NX 1.3 (souped up with Color Efex Pro 2.0). my first hastily approach for 'any' image to PP is avail of the magic of the 'Pro Contrast' filter and from this point i make my assessment. cut to the chase.. here i eradicated the slightly yellow cast on the 'white' surface of the iron with the 'White Neutralizer' filter and in this case, i had to use it twice. LCH's 'chroma' enhanced the isolated blue and some yellow in this image. i next deploy the Control Point on the rowenta brand to brighten it up abit. after, the joy of using "High Pass" takes place! i wouldn't know better if i should sharpen while image is in it's native state or after it's been sliced and diced.
i'm starting to appreciate this 85mm/1.8 AF-D. consider this pup as the closest thing to a 135mm lens when used on a DX like in this case.rowenta
